Sibling associations
Affiliated associations in Nijmegen
Affiliated associations (also known as 'brothers') are other study associations in Nijmegen with which V.C.M.W. Sigma has a connection. And since Nijmegen enjoys quite a number of active study associations, we have a lot of brothers.
So what do these brothers bring us? There are a number of aspects which makes having so many brothers plenty of fun. First of all, it's great to mix and meet people from other disciplines. Parties and other informal get-togethers are organised to oil the proceedings along. There is of course a more serious side too, in which our brothers play a key function. However well organised an association may be, it can still encounter strong headwinds and unexpected challenges. In this event, the example of how other study associations deal or have dealt with similar issues in the past can often point the way to a possible solution.
The body that looks after the exchange of information and supports cooperation between study associations is the 'Samenwerkingsoverleg Faculteitsverenigingen' (SOFv). The SOFv keeps the study associations up to speed on current topics within the USR and sends out invitations to appropriate guest speakers. Most of our brothers are member of SOFv, which makes communication particularly easy. Contact details for most of the brothers can be found on the SOFv website: www.SOFv.nl.
Sigma's key brothers are of course the 'bèta' brothers. The 'bèta' brothers are united under Olympus, the umbrella association for the Faculty of Science. More information is available on the Olympus website: www.olympus.science.ru.nl

Sister associations
Sigma's 'sisters' are various study associations involved in Chemistry or MLS based in other parts of the Netherlands. These are associations we compete against annually at the ONCS. The Sigma Board keeps in regular contact with ‘our’ sisters via the CSV and the annual constitution get-togethers and sister evenings. The following associations are Sigma sisters:
